The YMCA Green Network is excited to launch YMCA GREEN SPACE an online platform to empower and support YMCA leaders in building green practices, resulting in improved operational efficiency and a more sustainable future.
YMCA GREEN SPACE was created to compliment the YMCA Environmental Sustainability Action Planning Toolkit. The Toolkit provides an assessment so that you can develop a Green Action Plan for your YMCA. The online platform, YMCA GREEN SPACE, provides resources, examples and collaboration with YMCA leaders to help you implement your plan.
Once you download and familiarize yourself with the Toolkit, you may want to join one or more online collaboration groups based on the action steps you want to take for your YMCA.
YMCA Green Space is made up of online collaboration groups in the following areas which map directly to the Toolkit:
Building Your Green Ecosystem
YMCAs can build your ecosystem in any order based on your readiness and resources. To ensure commitment to each area of your green ecosystem, your YMCA can build goals and strategies into your strategic plan.

Define your YMCA’s green vision, goals and sustainability strategies. Utilize the Environmental Sustainability Toolkit to develop a Green Action Plan.
ADVANCEMENT
Financial & Governmental Supports
Secure funding and advocate for private or government support to advance your sustainability initiatives.
ENGAGEMENT
Staff Volunteers & Community Partners
Engage staff and volunteers at all levels and develop relationships and collaborations with community partners. Prioritize inviting young people as collaborators.
PROPERTY
Buildings, Sites & Transportation
Understand your YMCA’s current infrastructure and emissions output and outline areas of opportunity to increase efficiency.
YMCA PROGRAMS
Community Education & Events
Identify opportunities to build eco-friendly components into existing programs and partner to create new programs that align with your YMCA and community partners’ goals.
Joining YMCA Green Space
YMCA Green Space is hosted on a platform called Rallyhood, where you can find the online collaboration groups listed above.
The online sharing platform includes:
- Examples and resources to support action items listed in the Toolkit.
- Online collaboration groups you can join to learn more about a specific area, share your examples and ask questions.
- Information on educational webinars.
- Access to awesome YMCA professionals who are passionate about a sustainable future.
Access the platform by website or by downloading the app for Apple or Android.
Join one or more collaboration groups based on your interests. For each group you’d like to join, click on the corresponding invite link. You will then receive access within 3 business days.

- Engagement: Engage staff and volunteers at all levels and develop relationships and collaborations with community partners.
